We all know that rules and regulations are there to be complied with. But that doesn't mean you have to like them all! So I'm wondering - if you could repeal one of the laws that applies to your business, which would it be?
And what are the reasons for your choice - what riles you about the rule you'd axe if given the chance? The time required to implement it? The cost? The complication? The seeming pointlessness?!
In the business I work for five out of the six longest serving employees are women who, between us, have had five children in the time we've worked at the company. Our company has shown a reasonable degree of flexibility and understanding when it came to maternity arrangements and flexible working following having children and as a result I feel a strong degree of loyalty and willing to go 'above and beyond', if needed. For me this is a good example of how what can be seen as a negative situation for small businesses (maternity/paternity leave) can bring longer term benefits if handled in the right way.
Contentious but, for the small business, the issue of maternity and paternity leave needs a meat cleaver taken to it. Why? Ask all those small businesses now scared by the cost and who see UNAFFORDABLE writ very large. It's great for the family, who could possibly disagree? But it's a nonsense when trying to establish a small busienss and creste secure jobs for others within your local community. Outcome? Many daren't employ the staff they might otherwise need to grow.
